COMM 100: Home

This is a brief guide for COMM 100, focusing on finding resources about policy writing and policy implementation in the workplace.

Assignment guidelines: things to consider before your search

Short Report:

Your company is writing a new policy (the policy is your choice - some ideas will be provided) (https://www.nlesd.ca/about/policies.jsp)

Your role is to present a report at the first meeting.

Research and include details on the following key elements:

  • The two most critically important considerations of such a policy.
  • What seems to be common in such policies at other organizations?
  • What are some of the pros and cons of implementing such a policy? For example, how has this been received by employees at other organizations?
  • What is the best method to successfully implement such a policy?
  • What factors might lead to success or failure?
  • What is the best method of enforcing such a policy? Are there privacy or other regulations that may apply here?

Plan your search

  • Consider specific keywords and synonyms to represent the types of businesses, departments, or activities you want to write about. For example: government, public sector, and public services have similar meanings (thought they are not synonyms) and can be used in the same search (government OR public sector OR public services)
  • Use nested searches for related keywords or synonyms:
    • (private companies OR public sector) AND (policy implementation OR policy making)
